Joining REPs with Overseas Qualifications
REPs recognises that there are a number of fitness professionals practicing in the UK who hold overseas qualifications.
Through the International Confederation of Exercise Registers (ICREPs) REPs UK have agreements with other registers throughout the world.
European Qualifications
For members wishing to join REPs UK with qualifications gained within the EU instructors are able to join with Full status subject to their qualifications meeting European Health & Fitness Association (EHFA) standards.
Australia and New Zealand
Instructors wishing to join REPs UK with qualifications gained in Australia and New Zealand may join through one of the following routes;
- membership of the relevant Register within that country
- through producing a Letter of Portability arranged through the relevant register within that country
Other Countries
Subject to the nature of qualifications held and industry experience instructors with overseas qualifications may be considered for acceptance on to the REPs with Provisional membership status.
Please note, due to the complexities of assessing overseas qualifications processing time may take longer than 28 days.
Provisional status is awarded for a maximum period of 12 months. During this period individuals will be required to prove that their skills meet the nationally agreed standards through one of the following options:
- Option 1 – Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) - Successfully complete a theory paper and/or a practical assessment at an Approved Test Centre
- Option 2 - Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA). Collect evidence of learning and work practice against a template document and submit for assessment to an approved training provider. Some industry training providers offer this service. However it is quite onerous to provide enough evidence to prove knowledge and competence and is sometimes easier to use Option 1
- Option 3 – Complete a qualification through an Approved Training Provider that meets current national guidelines
All options are certificated by an awarding body and individuals will need to decide which option is suitable. Selected training providers will work with candidates to identify if there is any additional training required to ensure they have sufficient knowledge and competence to pass.
Each option will incur costs.How To Register
Submit a Registration Form along with an industry CV, PHOTOCOPIES of qualifications (these must be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from a responsible person, such as a Manager, Doctor, Teacher, Solicitor etc signing each individual photocopy and confirming that they have seen the originals), confirmation of Civil Liability insurance (can be purchased through REPs), registration fee and insurance fee (where purchased). We will do the rest.
